This stunning house, with a stone exterior located 20 miles west of Chicago, was needing a renovation and the owner, Sally Grimes hired a design firm, PROjECT Interiors, to do the job. Daring interiors might not be everyone’s first choice, but for Grimes and the interior designers in charge of the project, it was the desired look.
Lauren Warnock, the senior designer said: “So we took the traditional bones and updated the look to reflect the cool and chic family that’s living there”.
The house is filled with natural light, dark furniture and pops of vibrant colors creating a perfect balancing contrast. “Glam mixed with a little grit” is the firm’s signature aesthetic.

The dining room is the perfect example of the aesthetic of the entire house A fringed white armchair at the end of the table, contrasting with emerald green dining chairs. Eclectic objects from the couple’s travels that are displayed through the house as art.
The original stone fireplace was left untouched and the walls decorated with the family’s art collection. A unique combination of materials, textures, and colors gives the rooms a unique look.
Rooms for entertaining were also a crucial point for Sally Grimes. The result was cozy, bold and modern interiors. There’s even a bar in the library. and a music lounge with graffitied-walls and hand-painted metallic loops by a local artist.
In the kitchen, most of the original features were kept.
Contrast and texture are the main players in the guest bedroom. The unique leather headboard anchors the bed and has the perfect contrast with the Moroccan wedding blanket. The unique dressing table is a customized design by PROjECT Interiors. We love how the mirror is suspended, giving more room to space.
