Workshop/APD crafts residences that are tailored to a client’s unique lifestyle, the site, and the local culture and history. In every project high tech and hand finishing are applied to exquisite details and fine materials and finishes, resulting in one-of-a-kind designs where clients finally feel at home.

The team, led by founding principals Andrew Kotchen, Matt Berman and principal architect Thomas J. Zoli is inquisitive, conscious and above all passionate, finding inspiration in new creative perspectives among colleagues and clients.

1. Cobble Hill Townhouse
Nestled between two classic 1900s buildings on a leafy Brooklyn street, this ground-up townhouse embodies the ever-changing neighborhood’s energy with a forward-thinking design in Belgian brick, glass and steel. The family home features bright, comfortable rooms that take full advantage of the spacious lot’s light and views, a jaw-dropping chef’s kitchen, and a penthouse studio and terrace with a modern jacuzzi.
2. Berkshires Mountain Retreat
In Williamstown, MA, Workshop/APD created a luxurious mountainside retreat for a family of avid skiers from New York City. This ground-up Berkshires home creates a seamless connection between its interiors and the stunning site, creating a four-season escape for the owners – also consummate entertainers- and an extended group of family and friends. Aside from its modern après ski vibe and plentiful guest accommodations, the project boasts a radiant-heated all-seasons room, a soaring fieldhouse with a basketball court and game loft, and a one-of-a-kind triple bunk bed.
3. Palm Beach Renovation
Workshop/APD‘s designers brought a comfortable yet refined aesthetic to this coastal modern residence in the heart of Palm Beach. The home’s bright, spacious rooms, arranged around a lush central courtyard, are designed for easy, elegant entertaining and family gatherings, with a jaw-dropping sculptural kitchen, a layered neutral palette punctuated by pops of color, and gallery-level furnishings masterfully arranged to encourage connection and conversation.

4. Upper East Side Residence
Steps from Central Park, The Metropolitan Museum, and New York’s best shops, restaurants and galleries, a complete interior renovation transformed an Upper East Side apartment into a true collectors’ haven featuring dramatic architectural details, one-of-a-kind custom and gallery-level furnishings, and exceptional finishes selected to complement the exquisitely curated artwork.
5. Greenwich Village Apartment
An effortlessly modern Greenwich Village pied-à-terre takes full advantage of sweeping Hudson River views with a clever, flexible design. Private spaces are contained within a central core, signaled by subtle shifts in material and ceiling height to create intimacy and comfort. In the apartment’s public areas, Workshop/APD used a custom corian shelving system and custom artwork in order to help to frame views and focus sightlines.

6. West Side Penthouse
To take a towering glass box penthouse in an iconic New York City tower to new heights, Workshop/APD redefined its public and private interior spaces to honor breathtaking views of the Hudson River. The modern pied-a-terre’s gleaming white interiors, designed to highlight an enviable art collection, are further elevated by luxurious, layered textiles and rugs, dramatic lighting, and dynamic architectural forms that extend to an expansive rooftop terrace.
7. Nantucket Family Compound
On one of Nantucket’s most enviable sites, Workshop/APD designed a family-friendly compound that embodies indoor-outdoor living. Gorgeously landscaped exterior spaces connect a spacious guest house to the modern, inviting harbor front main house, creating a sense of both connectivity and privacy for the homeowners and their guests.

8. Central Park West Residence
On Central Park, a holistic material palette and sculptural, architectural forms and elements create a minimalist escape within a pre-war envelope rich in Art Deco detail. The residence’s gallery-like design flows seamlessly from one space to the next, visually expanding its rooms and setting the scene for effortless entertaining.
9. Madaket Compound
This quintessential Nantucket retreat is the result of two years of design, collaboration and construction. The sprawling compound, which features a main house, guest/pool house and separate studio space with media room and lounge, is thoughtfully integrated with the site to create a feeling of intimacy. To maximize ocean views, our team placed living spaces located on the top floor.
10. Waccabuc Lake House
Located just north of New York City, this lake house by Workshop/APD perfectly embodies the term “crafted modern”. Warm welcoming, and family-friendly for a family of five, the home’s interiors reflect the fashionable client’s chic and easy style and spotlight commanding waterfront views, encouraging a strong connection to the outdoors.
