PETER MARINO’ ID’ Of The Week – Top 10 Interior Designers – This week #46, we’ll present in detail one of our Top 10 Interior Designers, Peter Marino will be the first. Peek into the article to learn more about this artist in the area of interior design.
Peter Marino is a well-known American interior designer and architect. Owner of Marino Architect PLLC, an architectural and design company, founded in 1978.
He studied and obtained his degree at Cornell University College of Architecture, Art, and Planning.
He started working for Owings & Merrill, George Nelson and I.M Pei. In 1978, he worked with Andy Warhol on some projects, allowing him to improve his skills as a professional.
During his career, Marino had some very coveted and awarded works, among them:
After nearly 40 years, Italian Bvlgari returns to one of New York’s busiest corners. Between 5th Avenue and 57th Street, the boutique draws attention to the design developed by the renowned American architect.
The idea is to bring a timeless and contemporary re-reading, with the balance between the traditional and the new.
On the outside, the facade impresses – it is composed by a gold-tone mesh, with flowers. The entrance door also deserves attention: is a reproduction of the iconic Condotti door from 1930, and even has a handmade replica of the lantern hanging.
Another great work by Peter Marino, in the USA again, Beverly Hills for Louis Vitton, this project for the classic luxury clothing brand earned him the ‘City of Beverly Hills Architectural Award 2015 – Large Retail ‘.
At night, Peter Marino’s work suits beautiful, with the inside light coming through the glass structure, creating a stunning effect that begins to reaffirm the building as an unique architectural project.
In South Korea, the architect and interior designer developed an irregular and sharp way store for Boontheshop, which later came to win awards for its brave and innovative design.
”The flagship for Seoul-based women’s specialty store Boontheshop comprises 55,000 sq ft spread over seven floors and through its development in response to the challenging constraints of the site has become something of an icon. Located in the prominent retail district of Cheongdam, largely characterized by dense architectural styles, the developed project with two polished angular volumes in white marble serves as a powerful and calming statement.”
Marino participated in the development of the Italian store FENDI, also in the center of his city. With a building where it mixes historical elements and modern touches, the interior designer explains that his imagination led him to try to rebuild the environment that lives in the city of Rome and bring it to New York.
To understand his thinking, we leave here some phrases from the creator about his project.
“In retail, you have to build a piece of architecture where you don’t need a sign to tell you what the brand is,” / “Columns, arches, travertine, that’s Rome. The Coliseum!” / “We developed a lacquer that is furlike in that the color never looks the same way twice. I was going for irregularities.”- Marino
