When designer and contractor Justin Krzyston was approached to restore an Art Deco-style home designed by Lloyd Wright (son of Frank Lloyd Wright), he willfully took on the challenge.

But it would require a full renovation to bring the 2,700-square-foot Los Angeles home back to its original glory. The property, known as the Samuel-Novarro home, after the first two occupants — Louis Samuel, a Hollywood business manager who moved into the home in 1928, and movie star Ramon Novarro, who took over ownership in 1931 — has remained a favorite of Hollywood power players. Both Diane Keaton and Christina Ricci called the property home before Krzyston’s client bought the four-bedroom, four-bathroom estate estate in 2014.

Krzyston’s overhaul included painting the interiors as well as the exteriors, repairing exterior walls, and fixing drainage issues, as well as redoing the floors and updating the landscaping. He also reworked the grounds and added new walking paths and garden areas.

And although the home’s original copper facade has now faded to green, the result of Krzyston’s update is a home worthy of its distinction as a cultural monument, bestowed upon the property by the city of Los Angeles.
