The Golden Globes may be one of the more relaxed and genuinely fun events on the awards-season calendar, but that doesn’t mean that the stars in attendance will skimp on fashion. Below, you can see dozens of looks from the 2016 Golden Globes red carpet, from the instant classics to the “What were they thinking?” and everything in between.
At last year’s Golden Globes, the best looks included classic glamour (Jessica Chastain’sshiny Versace, Amal Clooney’s white opera gloves), unexpected flashes of skin (Kate Hudson’s cutouts, Lorde’s midriff baring), and some moves considered bold even for this anything-goes modern era (both Emma Stone and Lorde wore pants—pants!!). While the fashion never takes a break at the Golden Globes red carpet, the event is an opportunity to be a little bolder, as when Dakota Johnson wore a gorgeous and seemingly disco-ball-inspired gown last year, or in 2014, when Emma Watson’s half-pants, half-dress ensemble seemed wild and incredibly chic, a sign that a fashion risk had truly paid off.
The red carpet isn’t just all about posing, though. Some of our favorite awards-show moments of recent years have happened before anyone even entered the theater, likeJennifer Lawrence sneaking up on Taylor Swift, Jennifer Aniston getting hands-y with Kate Hudson while talking to Ryan Seacrest, or hey, remember that time a pipe burst and threatened to flood the whole thing?
But, in the end? It’s all about the fashion. Feast your eyes on all of the highs and lows in the images below that shows the best dresses of this glamorous event.
