All About The First Gold-Brick Building in Manhattan – Located on an iconic block in Downton Manhattan, this gold-brick building will be coming to the Lower East Side this spring.
The 94-unit condominium building is the result of a collaboration between interior designer Adam Rolston and real estate agent Ben Shaoul. Both saw the incredible potential that a more textured building, that would stand out in the crowd of buildings, would have in the area.
The gold façade will surely be a hit for both residents and tourists, and we can imagine that the luxury building will be the delight of Instagrammers!
“We felt that a traditional glass structure didn’t mesh with the surroundings,” says Rolston, who looked for a material humble enough to belong in the neighbourhood that had been home to waves of immigrants over decades, but luxurious enough to attract contemporary residents.
He found the perfect material when he came across the artisanal Spanish bricks infused with gold dust that overtime will oxidize and become darker. These gold bricks symbolize the eclectic and transformational nature of the neighbourhood.
The exterior of the building will have a glowing appearance, but keeps the “muscular character, reminiscent of the workshops and manufacturing structures that once dominated the area,” says Rolston.
Sixty-thousand bricks were used for the building, each infused with 24K-gold dust.
The interiors of the apartments, which will range from studios to four-bedroom apartments, and the price tags will start at $965.000 and can go up to $6.500.000.
The interiors will have rich, natural and refined finishes, using concrete, bleached walnut, limestone and Nero Marquina marble.
