PARIS DESIGN WEEK 2018 – MAJOR EVENTS/ MAISON ET OBJET

The eighth annual Paris Design Week will take place from Thursday 6 to Saturday 15 September 2018. For ten days, the event invites French and international professionals and the general public to discover the best showcases of design in Paris, while the leading talents in the discipline gather in the LE OFFexhibition. This event is an itinerary uniting 250 participants that all proudly promote first-rate design in Paris. At a time when new collections are popping up in stores and the new concepts for the autumn season are being launched, the event brings together the talents and forces of retailers, galleries, showrooms, hotels, and restaurants for eight days to share their experience in design and creation with the public.

One of the Top Events taking place during the Paris Design Week is the event Maison et Objet. That’s right, the ultimate lifestyle and design event comes back to Paris with a new challenge, one that seeks to completely overhaul its structure, more specifically its sectors: Maison and Objet. These two sectors will be presented from 7-11 September with a brand-new perspective, improving the journey and experience of visitors and professionals alike during the event.

The most extraordinary thing about Maison et Objet Paris is that it is constantly reinventing itself, year after year! I)n every edition, whether it is in January or September, it brings new ideas and inspirations throughout and offer it’s guests a whole new experience! Due to the diversity in the world of interior design, a lot of challenge for specifies take form, and so in order to become easier to scout new ideas and inspirations, Maison et Objet has altered its Maison sector, which will now be divided into four new realms to be explored: Unique & Eclectic, Today, Forever, and Craft. Through this four sectors, Maison et Objet will offer styles and trends just as diverse as ever before, with the assistance of the most exclusive luxury brands within these sectors.

On the other hand, the beauty of this design and lifestyle event is that it is highly appreciated by respected buyers both French and international. These are always searching for the latest product novelties, so the presence of the Objet hub by typology is more crucial than ever. For this edition, M&O has simplified the process into seven categories: Cook & Share, Smart Gift, Fashion Accessories, Kids & Family, Home Accessories, Home Fragrance, and Home Linen! With this new format that is way more elegant and simple, Maison et Objet wants to retain the title of one of the world’s most beloved tradeshow and the perfect stage for industry professionals and design enthusiasts to discover new trends and expressions in a multitude of sectors. This edition’s Designer of the Year will be Belgium’s Ray Fischler, and the Rising Talent Section will be dedicated to Rising Talents for Lebanon!

This edition will also feature several luxury exhibitors and we have to highlight the presence of notorious brands like Covet House and PullCast (CH Hall 7 – Stand B52 – C51). The Covet House stand will englobe every brand from The Covet Group so you can expect to find at this stand all the major furniture pieces form this design group.

The famous luxury brand Brabbu (BB Hall 6 – Stand H38 – I37) will also be present at Maison & Objet! You can expect to find some of the best design pieces inspired by nature with the quality Brabbu has presented in the past!

If you are looking for a stunning lighting product for your next Contract Project, then you should take a look at DelightFull (DL Hall 6 | Stand N112 – O111). This luxury brand will showcase, once again, it’s stunning products in Paris, like the Ike Suspension Lampthat you can see above! The Galliano Lamp and other Major Wall Lamps will be there too!

Besides Maison et Objet, Paris Design Week will feature other design events across the city. The Le Off Event it’s going for its eighth edition. The exhibition is leaving Les Docks – Cité de la Mode et du Design and moving to Ground Control Paris, in Rue du Charolais, in a temporary art venue owned by the French national railway company SNCF. What better location to spark the imagination of young designers than Paris’s foremost alternative scene? Pending rehabilitation, the former mail sorting center, located just a stone’s throw from the Gare de Lyon train station, has been turned into a friendly cross-disciplinary venue where people can meet, share ideas, exhibit their art, make new discoveries and experiment. During Paris Design Week, the venue will become a stage for a selection of more than 40 up-and-coming designers from all over the world.

Included in the Maison et Objet Program, the Paris Design Week will also promote a series of Masterclasses at The Talks Event that will be led by Chantal Hamaide. This event will open up the floor to the industry’s most influential figures, those who practice design and are committed to its advancement. This event will take place at Ground Control, that will also feature the Award Ceremony of the Rado Star Prize. Organised for the sixth consecutive year, the Rado Star Prize offers a stage for the new generation of design professionals. This year, the theme of the contest is “Design Inspired by Nature”: a chance to research materials and textures, explore concepts like resilience, transmission, durability, raise awareness of new consumption behaviors, and end foreseen obsolescence. The winner will be awarded during the Design Week.

PARIS DESIGN WEEK 2018 – SMALL EVENTS

There will be plenty of events occurring around the city. Four of the city’s most vibrant districts will celebrate the creative industry: Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Les Halles-Marais-Bastille, Opéra-Concorde-Étoile and Barbès-Stalingrad-Saint Ouen. And for each of them, a special evening filled with exciting private views and events, bringing together the entire design community. One of those pays homage to Japan. Echoing the city-wide event Japonismes 2018, Paris Design Week compiled all events dedicated to Japan into a single itinerary. The high point of the event will be the Eiffel Tower’s new lighting designed by mother-and-daughter lighting gurus Motoko Ishii and Akari-Lisa Ishii to evoke the radiance of the rising sun.  Exploring both traditional arts and Japan’s new technology, it will be an event to remember! The Eiffel Tower, lit up in white, adorned with a red rising sun.

During the duration of the Paris Design Week, Les Ateliers de Paris open their Rue du Faubourg Saint Antoine headquarters to Céline Pelcé, who has created an experimental space artfully combining a gallery and a dining hall. The exhibition will question dining rituals and confront them with the rituals observed during a vernissage. An experience of togetherness, people meeting up to interact according to strict pre-established rules, Les Ateliers de Paris is at the core of the city’s urban planning policy. It delivers services tailored to help professionals develop their business and provides offices to entrepreneurs with a creative project. Offering an “incubator for creative professionals”, Les Ateliers de Paris is deeply committed to the promotion of young creative professionals.

Designed by Yaël Halberthal and Philippe Zagouri as a 21st-century salon, Salon H is a place where people come to show their work and engage in conversation. At Salon H, visitors will find a highly stimulating new concept, a hub that concentrates on unique experiences and backgrounds. It’s a place you need to visit during this Design Week. Starting 6 September, the Triode Design gallery in Rue Jacob will host Allied Maker for their very first exhibition in Paris. The New York-based practice, established by Ryden and Lanette Rizzo, designs and manufactures a range of refined and pared-down lights, made by assembling natural materials like brass, glass and solid wood, and exemplifying their unconditional love for artisanal craftsmanship. Check it out from Thursday 6 to Saturday 15 September 2018.

During Paris Design Week, Italian brand De Padova, which has recently opened a showroom in Rue de la Chaise, in the former Boffi Bains showroom, will present its new products unveiled in April in Milan. This year, the brand has chosen to focus on sofas, with two distinct new propositions Blendy and Erei, respectively designed by Omi Tahara and Elisa Ossino. Using round enveloping lines to counterbalance the thinness of the structure, Tahara and Ossino have successfully translated the spirit of the brand’s late founders, Magdalena De Padova and Vico Magistretti. The two young designers will be present on Thursday 6 September to speak about their experience treading in the footsteps of the iconic Milan-based brand.

Boffi Paris continues its transformation and expands its showroom to include a dedicated bathroom space. The two contiguous showrooms – 232 and 234 Boulevard Saint-Germain – provide an 8-meter-long window display opening onto the street. For Paris Design Week, the brand will present a special installation: 80 sqm on two levels showing the latest collections unveiled in April, at the Salone del Mobile. Paris Design Week visitors will have a chance to discover designs created by Piero Lissoni, Keiji Takeuchi and Mikal Harrsen of MA/U Studio for Boffi.

When talking about color, Atelier Mériguet-Carrère truly has a special place. Labelled Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant by the French Ministry for the Economy, the brand has delved into its archives and pulled out a palette of 144 colors. Harmonious shades, high-quality paints…Architects and individual home-owners will find subtle nuances and signature hues hidden behind names like Blanc de Meudon, Alumine and Parchemin. Presented for the very first time in the atelier at 140 Boulevard Saint Germain, where visitors will appreciate the intense matt aspect and depth of the colors, Mériguet-Carrère’s color harmonies were elaborated for high-end interiors and the high-profile designers who imagine them.

During Paris Design Week, Steiner will launch its new visual identity and retrace its flawless history of modernity. The brand’s singular status on the French design scene is well established and was recognized as early as the 1920s. A cutting-edge, innovative and avant-garde brand during the time of Charles Steiner, the company has chosen to bring its past back to life during Paris Design Week, targeting a younger audience who enjoys historical – vintage and iconic – designs. For instance, Kwok Hoi Chan’s Zen chair and Michel Mortier’s velvet SF 103, which was a regular staple in offices of high-profile corporate executives all through the 60s.

A similar approach was taken by the Disderot showroom in Passage Saint-Paul. The exhibition will honor the brand’s models, including some never shown before, from the postwar years. A time that today’s generations have not experienced, but that still sparks a lot of interest from antique lovers. (Re)discover the works of Abraham & Rol, RenéJean Caillette, Pierre Disderot, Roger Fatus, Michel Mortier, Joseph-André Motte, Pierre Paulin, Alain Richard, Olivier Mourgue and Pierre Guariche, that continue to be produced today with the greatest respect for the originals and the savoir-faire of Ateliers Pierre Disderot. All of this during the Paris Design Week.

Adress – Avenue Gustave Eiffel, Tour Eiffel, 2ème étage – Pilier Sud, 75007 Paris.
