Highlights of Stockholm Furniture 2019:<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>\u00a0the fair was full to bursting point with the latest innovations within interior design and lighting for both homes and public spaces from 5th to 9th February 2019. New products, new materials, new knowledge, new trends and new environmental and technological solutions were displayed in both informative and inspirational manner.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

NERI & HU \u2013 GUEST OF HONOUR 2019<\/a><\/h3>\n

\"Highlights<\/a><\/p>\n

Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu, who are behind the award-winning Chinese Neri&Hu, an inter-disciplinary architectural design practice, was created an installation at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair. This was the 16th time the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair has invited a well-respected international designer or architect to create an installation at Stockholmsm\u00e4ssan\u2019s Entrance Hall.<\/p>\n

Neri&Hu Design and Research Office was founded in 2004 in Shanghai, China by Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu. Their work has received a lot of attention at the global design market and was rewarded in 2017 with almost 100 design awards across the globe. They also won the 2018 RIBA International Prize in London, issued by Royal Institute of British Architects.
\nNeri&Hu believes strongly in research as a design tool, as each project bears its unique set of contextual issues. Lyndon Neri has a master degree in architecture at Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts in architecture at the University of California. Rossana Hu has a master degree in architecture and urban planning at Princeton University and also a Bachelor of Arts in architecture and music at the University of California, Berkeley.<\/p>\n

NM & A NEW COLLECTION<\/a><\/h3>\n

\"Highlights<\/a><\/p>\n

An exhibition at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair will be entitled \u201cNM & A New Collection\u201d. It exhibited the joint creation of the National museum\u2019s new restaurant. The exhibition showed the process surrounding the interior design of the restaurant and the production of eighty new interior objects as well as the work on the renovation of the museum.<\/p>\n

As part of the renovation of the Nationalmuseum, Matti Klenell, TAF Arkitekter, Carina Seth Andersson and Stina L\u00f6fgren were given the assignment of creating a new restaurant, bar and caf\u00e9. The result was a unique initiative on contemporary design: approximately eighty new products were made by twenty different producers. It is the designers themselves who curated and designed the exhibition at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair.<\/p>\n

EDITOR\u2019S CHOICE AWARDS<\/a><\/h3>\n

The Jury:\u00a0editors-in-chief from some of Europe\u2019s most influential design forums:\u00a0Marcus Fairs, Dezeen (GBR),\u00a0Costas Voyatzis, Yatzer (GRC),\u00a0Dana Tomic Hughes, Yellowtrace (AUS) and\u00a0Beryl Hsu, IDEAT China (CHN). The award ceremony took place on February 6, 2:30 PM at Stockholm Design & Architecture Talks.<\/p>\n

BEST PERFORMANCE \u2013 SELECTED BY THE GREENHOUSE JURY<\/a><\/h3>\n

The jury \u2013\u00a0Anya Sebton (designer),\u00a0Jens Fager (designer),\u00a0John L\u00f6fgren (designer),\u00a0Monica von Schmalensee (architects) \u2013 will assess both the exhibitors\u2019 presentations in their stands and their products using Greenhouse\u2019s keywords: curiosity, innovation and sustainability. The objective was to encourage the designers to think about the bigger picture and present their design in a well-thought-out manner.\u00a0The winner received EUR 5,000, and the award ceremony was on February 5 on the Greenhouse stage.<\/p>\n

CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN THE DESIGN WORLD OF TOMORROW (TOM DIXON)<\/h3>\n

\"tom<\/a><\/p>\n

Designer Tom Dixon first saw the light of day on May 21, 1959 in Sfax, Tunisia. In 1963, his family moved to England. After high school Dixon attended the Chelsea School of Art for a short time before dropping out and earning his keep as a musician in a band and by doing odd jobs. At the beginning of the 1980s he began to produce chairs welded together out of everyday items he had salvaged \u2013 with rapidly growing success. His talk took place on 7th February, 12:00PM at The Design Bar of Victoria Hall.<\/p>\n

DESIGN AND PRAGMATISM (MATALI CRASSET)\"Highlights<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cMy work as a designer has for more than a decade drawn its meaning by confronting the social terrain, which is the thought underlying Maison des Petits au Centquatre, the Le Bl\u00e9 en Herbe school for the town of Tr\u00e9b\u00e9dan in Brittany, the experience of the Maison Sylvestres in the Meuse department, and elsewhere. Pragmatism is a philosophy that stresses experience and action, but also invention and creativity.\u201d<\/p>\n
