A beacon of contemporary design among rural Ontario, this private residence embodies the holistic relationship between architecture and interior design. Intriguing architectural layers evolve throughout the home, revealing more depth and spacious modern conveniences. Across two wings and six-tiered floors, the study, multiple lounges, spa, kitchen and bedrooms are connected by minimalist staircases and continuous floor-to-ceiling windows. Creating a true sense of place, all Canadian-sourced materials were exclusively incorporated into the home’s modern design: Sapele wood exterior finishes and millwork, white oak flooring, Eramosa limestone as well as Algonquin limestone in a variety of finishes including sandblasted on the outer walls, smooth-honed in the entrance-way and polished on the entrance floor tiles. This property’s original foundation is a celebrated structure from gifted Canadian architect Ron Thom. Thom’s signature ability to bring the outside in effortlessly creates zen-like moments found and perpetuated by Studio Munge in his own redesign.

Studio Munge – The William Vale

Studio Munge, The Most Unforgettable Bathroom Designs

Located in the heart of lively Williamsburg, The William Vale is reshaping Brooklyn attracting travellers and locals alike with a refreshing combination of interactive hospitality programs and innovative design. Just opened and already recognized by many as a groundbreaking, Vogue Magazine calls the property The Most Fashionable New Hotel while Harper’s Bazaar describes Studio Munge’s interiors as eye-catching and innovative. Very early on, everyone involved in the project was aligned: the interiors should not be contrived nor thematic if only plainly reflecting Williamsburg’s surrounding and its iconic brick warehouses. This building had to represent a new generation of thinking inspired by Brooklyn’s individuality, its local art community and infused with the area’s industrial strength. In this new building, it meant creating an authentic design solution by breaking away from the exposed brickwork and distressed timber that has become mainstream.

Taking inspiration from the elegant penthouses of New York’s Upper East Side and London’s Mayfair neighbourhood, Studio Munge applied a neutral colour palette for the interiors, defined by soft crèmes and ivories and accented by the hard finishes in Macassar ebony wood, and dark polished stone.
